New Blog post: Please stop calling Isil a death cult

Posted by Jon Underwood on Dec. 2, 2015, 7:05 p.m.

Isil and other Islamist groups are repeatedly described by the West and themselves in terms of their relationship with death. This comes from the top with the Barack Obama branding Isil a ‘brutal, vicious death cult’ at a prayer breakfast earlier this year and at least once subsequently. David Cameron also uses this rhetoric, saying Isil has a 'cultish attachment to death' in an anti radicalisation speech in July. Since then Cameron has repeatedly used ...

This is amazing and we’re sincerely grateful to everyone who has invested or supported the project. But, as our business plan sets out, we would realistically need 10 times this to proceed. Even with a further 30 days to run ...

Hi,

At the start of 2015 we had a poll about whether to try to set up a 'real' Death Cafe in London. This would be a coffee and events venue established specifically to facilitate engagement with death. ·        What is being asked here is whether setting up a ‘real’ Death Cafe is a good idea in principle. If a majority vote yes a business plan will be produced and with it a community share offer to raise the money. The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living

Damien Hirst has produced a significant amount of art focused on death, but this is perhaps his most famous piece. It consists of a 14 foot Tiger shark preserved in formaldehyde.

I've seen this in a gallery and it is an arresting piece. But the thing that interests me most is the title. Is it physically impossible to for us to imagine death? I don't know!

Jimmy was upset to discover that they had no headstone when he visited the cemetery. These photos show the process of us commissioning a headstone which today stands in Dublin.
