Death Cafe Birmingham- Some reflections

We held our first Death Cafe in Birmingham in February.

Kindly hosted by Blue Ginger restaurant in Kings Heath, there were 12 of us. A little nervous- our first time. But it was fantastic. I am going to hand this write up over to our fabulous participants and their comments.

We will definitely be doing this again. Thanks to everyone who came, get in touch to find out about our next event, Carrie.

“Once conversation got going there was a definite flow of ideas that came naturally and ended on a couple of accasions with a group pause and a moment of reflection over what had just been said.”

“It took me beyond the individual experience of death and into a wider discussion.”

“There were times when I felt very emotional. Remembered things I had forgotten that had been distressing.”

“Gave interesting insights to issues that I thought I’d got a good handle on but someone else provided a different and very interesting perspective.”

“I feel this is an area that is just not discussed and yet is so valuable when it is.”

“Go there with and interested and open mind.”

“Be prepared to actively listen and actively contribute.

“It made me realise a few things about myself/ feelings which I hadn’t spotted before.”

“Didn’t say a couple of things out loud as felt they would sound ridiculous- but that in itself was useful.”

“Bit apprehensive at first, but felt comfortable enough to put my thoughts across”

“Nice cup of Tea and great biscuits!”

“Not as daunting as you think”.

“Well done for tackling a subject that is often overlooked”.

“Excellent biscuits, thanks Connie!”
