Here's a review of our Death Cafe by first timer John O'Donnell. Thanks John!

Following the The Dying Well Community Charter Launch Event, on the 19th March at the “Blues Ground”, which included a presentation by Carrie Weekes, on the Death Cafe movement, I went along out of idle curiosity to a  Death Cafe event organised by Carrie and her business associate Fran, (not their first).   It was held at the Coffin Works in Hockley Birmingham from 1.0 pm until 3.0 pm on Sunday 29th March 2015.

The Death Cafe movement, is a strictly not for profit organisation, set up by Londoner Jon Underwood ...

11th January 2015

What better place to host a Death Café than Birmingham’s newest heritage attraction The Coffin Works?

We gathered to talk about all aspects of death and dying on a cold Sunday afternoon. We ate cakes, drank tea and laughed. Yes laughed! It’s always lovely to hear so much laughter happening at a Death Café.

Some people were returning to Death Café, others were new. All were completely engaged and ready to chat. We had a menu on hand if conversation slowed, but it wasn't really necessary. Once people start talking they don't want to stop!

As ever, I will hand ...

It was probably the most beautiful, sunny and warm Sunday Birmingham has seen all year.

Would the prospect of spending a couple of hours talking about Death be enough to tempt our prospective attendees from their sun-baked gardens and Birmingham’s wonderful parks and into a City Centre pub? We wouldn’t have blamed them for finding excuses…

But they came! 25 wonderful and interesting strangers came with a desire to talk about Death. This was our first publicly advertised Death Café in Birmingham. And thanks to a wonderful venue who put us up free-of-charge (thevictoriabirmingham.co.uk), some lovely cake pops courtesy of Conjurerskitchen.com and some ...
