About Stacey:

I'm a clinical social worker, a lecturer at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration, where I teach courses on Aging and Long-Term Care, and I'm the COO of ElderOptions Israel, which is a care management organization aimed at helping adults think about and plan for aging. Our goal is to Change the Way we See Aging and one of the ways we do this is by talking about life and about death and about how to plan to have a good and fulfilling life.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

Death has always been a part of my work and I see great importance in talking about and planning for what we can control about our life and about our death. We know that we can't control death itself, but we can think about and plan for our legacy.

I think that the Death Cafe is a great way to get people talking about death and work their way back to how they can live now, that will bring them their most satisfying death.

What would you like your legacy to be?

I would like to be known as someone who dared to live as full a life as possible, while connecting with those I love and sharing myself and my passions. I'd like to be known as someone who made a difference in other people's lives through my teaching and sharing about my own experiences and knowledge, to help other create a life that encourages open communication about life's most difficult topics, like death.

Thoughts for sharing:

I see the Death Cafe as a way to guide people towards discussing their fears about life and what they want to and can accomplish in their time on earth. Life and what we make of it, is almost always connected to what we fear about losing life, about our own death.
