About Jet Black:

I'm 53, living with an incurable cancer, currently in remission and in reasonable health. I'm culturally Jewish but anti-religious.

I believe that when I die, that's it! Whether or not there is reincarnation is neither here not there, as it won't be this 'me'; it'll be someone else. Currently I accept and feel at ease with the idea of dying. I have no idea how I'll feel when the time comes.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

I'm only going to die once, so I want to do it well. Having a say in how that happens would be hugely empowering and exciting.

I want to support others to die well and to grieve well.

Taboo subjects are fascinating to discuss, as are the people who are willing to discuss them.

What would you like your legacy to be?

Having been experienced as authentic and honourable by those who've had contact with me; having expressed myself fully; having enjoyed/experienced life to the full; and having made a positive difference in the world, in particular to those who've known me.

Being seen as a good role model for an extra/ordinary human being.

A lovely, relaxed and well-facilitated evening, of 22 people around four tables. Plenty of deep, meaningful, intimate, funny and touching conversations, quotes, poems, ideas, yummy cake and plenty of hot drinks. All participants seemed to enjoy the evening and most wanted to return for more.

Pretty good for my first time organising. It could not have worked as smoothly without the support and skills of the five facilitators who did an excellent job. Thank you all.

This was my first Death Café. I came with high hopes, an open mind and few expectations of exactly how it would be.

Billie made a friendly informal introduction, a light sprinkling of 'ground rules', drinks and cake were offered and there was a very welcoming atmosphere, making it easy to start talking to strangers about something so intimate.

Great start to an important ongoing conversation.

Well done and thank you all for a stimulating evening. I look forward to the next.
