About Pam Schierberg:
I've always been drawn to sunsets and seas and decided to make a permanent move to Florida's Gulf Coast, from Northern Kentucky, upon retirement.
I think of the ocean's ebb and flow much like life - breathing in and out - and sunsets as times that are approaching. Perhaps that is what draws me to the Death Cafe...open and honest conversations about nearly every aspect of our finite lives while granting us time to consider our final sunset.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
'There is a time to be born and a time to die...' Having conversations about life and death allows one to eliminate the fear and distress often associated with illness, aging, and death. Death Cafe conversations will never take away the pain of losing a loved one, but it has helped me to help others through the process, including family and friends.
Thoughts for sharing:
Paraphrasing from Dinah Maria Craik, 'A friend is one who keeps what is worth keeping, and with kindness blows the rest away'.

Another great discussion today with those who have been attending for some time, along with those new to the concept and conversation. With every session we listen...we learn...we ponder, and for some we may even consider a change for our remaining time on earth.
Our conversations easily move from the pragmatic to the spiritual, and how our thoughts and feelings have changed over time. But the bottom line keeps coming back to the fact that only in a Death Cafe can one openly consider life and death in a safe and open environment.
