Death Café report
Bell House
20th November 2026
It was a really fantastic turnout and a lovely atmosphere and we split into three tables to accommodate everyone and ensure all could have their say.
One group moderated by Melissa was a seemingly undiverse collection of white women and one man aged between 40 - 85, but each had different thoughts, styles and approaches. They discussed themes of legacy and control over death. They discussed funeral wishes and how these match up with what actually takes place. Talking about grief and how it feels to lose someone. About assisted dying and suicide.
Towards the end Melissa felt the atmosphere ...

Average 4.75
Comment:
Excellent
Very insightful
I thought we would discuss our time before death. Once we are not alive anymore the rest does not matter to the dead person any longer
Time to think, reflect and hear other peoples views

Hoidays missing some who will not be present this year. And talked how to make the most of our day to day life and especially make the most in our relationships.

Attendance was small again this month, but Skully enjoyed a warm chai while talking about how there are some tribal cultures that still go through ritual cannibalism as part of their funeral services.

While I had previously dabbled with Death Cafes in-person in Massachusetts US, but lost track when I switched states for work and even though I desired to connect with like minded folks in this space, things got lost in translation.
While visting the UK, I saw a virtual event on the deathcafe website that was happening on the same day I logged on and in an hour's time i.e. 11/16 and I hopped on - believing serendipidity.
The conversations were interesting and a mix of individuals with varied life experiences turned up. We talked about the process of how end of life doulas work, hospice care ...

Death Cafe write up: Myrtle Beach Death Cafe at Chapin Mem. Library

Nine people, once strangers, showed up at Chapin Memorial Library for a two-hour Death Café, and the conversation never really stopped.
With cake on the table and coffee in hand, people opened up about everything from family stories to worries, to the odd bits of humor that come with talking about death honestly.
It was relaxed, thoughtful, sometimes surprisingly funny — the kind of gathering that reminds you how good it feels to talk openly about things most folks avoid.

We hosted our first Death Cafe at the Cha House in Birmingham, AL. The event exceeded our expectations! We didn't require a formal RSVP so we were uncertain how many people would attend. We had approximately 30 people present for the event. The attendees were engaged and thoughtful and we covered a variety of topics including traditional vs green burials, our own mortality and how to be present for family/friends at the end of life. We are hopeful this will be the first of many in our area.
