About this Death Cafe

Let’s face it; death is a taboo subject in our culture. But engaging in frank discussions about ...death and dying and what you would like that experience to be for you can be a powerful (and empowering) experience. When we explore death in this way, we are really learning how to live.

Welcome to the Death Café.

The Death Café model was developed in 2011 in the UK by Jon Underwood and Sue Barsky Reid, based on the ideas of Bernard Crettaz and has quickly become an international phenomena. It is a group directed discussion of death with no set agenda except 'to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives'. DC encourages a relaxed, fun and informal atmosphere around death rather than a grief support or counseling session. Participants often leave the Death Café learning more about life than death.
