## PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF VENUE FOR THIS EVENT ##

On 20th March 2014 I organised an event for International Day of Happiness.

There is one thing that has stuck with me the most from the day, and that's about the bizarre and ironic discussion about Death ... on Happiness Day.

I've been thinking a lot about the irony and bizarreness of it all quite a bit over the past week, and now I find myself questioning whether it's bizarre at all?

When you think about it, all the people who love chasing the adrenalin buzz, doing crazy and pretty dangerous things... are they not ultimately after the feeling of looking death in the face in order to feel alive?

And the more I think about it, maybe it's not a bizarre topic to come up on Happiness Day afterall!

I've 'borrowed' a few of Gavin Whyte's words here who gave the talk that started the discussion at last week's event ... could talking about death actually increase our happiness and give rise to more gratitude, love, joy, compassion, understanding, empathy, patience, contentment, motivation, ambition in our lives?

A few days ago a friend posted about the Death Cafe movement and this is what has inspired me to host a discussion group in Huddersfield.

It will be a free flowing discussion group, very lightly facilitated, which will take place in a coffee shop over tea/coffee and cake (of course!), where people can come along and discuss this one thing that we ALL have in common, but yet never actually talk about very much.

It is my firm belief that this really hard stuff so much needs talking about. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to talk about the subject to death (apologies, extremely bad pun, it slipped in I'm afraid ), but I do think it may actually help people become less fearful, and that discussing it will hopefully be a positive thing.

And hey, well there is one thing ... it will definitely be very interesting and, who knows ... even possibly an uplifting afternoon.

If you would like to come along and join in the conversation, you will be made most welcome.

TO ATTEND PLEASE REGISTER ON THE EVENTBRITE LINK WHICH YOU WILL FIND ON THE RIGHT OF THIS TEXT.

Many thanks!

Susan

About Susan Dewhurst & Gavin Whyte

Susan Dewhurst

I run a little venture called Over the Rainbow Holistic & Wellbeing Workshops and one of my passions in life is to bring people together to connect ~ share ~ grow.

I'm not very comfortable with the idea of death but very much believe that by talking about the difficult subject, can only help us all become more comfortable with the uncomfortableness of it all.

This is why I am hosting a Death Cafe to help get the conversation started and see where it leads.
