About this Death Cafe

Libby Garcia says, “I believe there is great opportunity for healing at the end of life, so I’m excited to bring Death Café to Orcas. To have those important conversations, to sift out one’s most cherished ideals and communicate them to loved ones and neighbors, to examine the finite nature of one‘s time here can make life so much more sweet in the now and more comfortable in the end."  Please come out and join in the conversation!

About Crossroads and Orcas Public Library

Orcas Crossroads and co-sponsor Orcas Public Library are fortunate to be coordinating with Libby Garcia in presenting this Death Cafe.  Crossroads' mission is to promote community engagement through participation in conversations focused on topics of importance to citizens of Orcas Island.  The opportunity to talk about issues related to death is vital for our community.  We encourage and welcome community members of all ages to join this conversation - to consider what is important to us or those we might be caring for, or making decisions for as life comes to a close.

Libby Garcia, facilitator.

In her career as an RN, Libby has worked in both emergency and hospice, where she became passionate about alleviating end-of-life suffering. She volunteers for Whatcom Alliance for Health Advancement assisting people in drafting advanced directives and normalizing end-of-life discussions. She plays a banjo ukulele, brews hard cider and enjoys working on boats.
