About this Death Cafe
We want to stimulate conversation around death, and open the topic up to all mortals. We aim to make it a mainstream subject, not hidden or taboo.
About Lynda Hannah and Kerry Sunderland
Lynda is a grief counsellor, herbalist, and writer who has run Living Legacies, NZ's first natural funeral company, for the past 14 years. She runs workshops and seminars on the subjects of death, dying, and funerals, and hosted two Death Cafe's already.
Kerry is a writer/editor, online community moderator and radio host/producer. In 2010, her husband Steve lost his battle with cancer, which prompted Kerry to start writing a book that explores loss, grief, death and dying in different cultures. In 2014, she completed the Natural Death Care Centre in Australia’s Deathwalker Training programme, to develop her knowledge and skills in being able to accompany both the dying person and the bereaved through their journey but her main passion is improving “death literacy” in the community because she believes that by facing death one ultimately learns how to embrace life.
