About this Death Cafe

Downeast Death Cafe is seeking alternate facilitators to help conduct our sessions at the CCLC in Trescott. We believe that death is a universal common denominator for all peoples and we are interested in hearing many differing viewpoints to give our group a constantly renewed vitality, a unity of purpose in joining together people from different walks of life and to create a continuity of shared experience in our community.

About Valerie Lawson, Director of CCLC

Chuck Kniffen and Rhonda Welcome, newly wed this past Easter and newly relocated to the easternmost village of Lubec,Me have been facilitating a monthly Death Cafe at the CCLC for five months now. The meetings take place on the 1st Tuesday of every month and we have enjoyed a wide variety of attendees and some very engaging and profound discussion, not to mention quite a lot of good laughs.

Rhonda is an organic farmer, a vet technician and an avid dog-sled musher. She brings a unique perspective on death from her years of caring for people, pets and farm animals, combined with a heartfelt warmth for all people and do not forget the oven-warm goodies that she has baked for every Death Cafe thus far.

Chuck Kniffen is combat-wounded Vietnam Veteran with a Master's Degree is Philosophy. He has a long history of social work with injured workers, children and mentally ill persons. He also has a wide range of work experience including truck delivery driver, a herdsman, milkman, and literary publications author. Currently, in addition to facilitating the Downeast Death Cafe, Chuck and Rhonda are starting a new business. They also do creative sea-junk puppet workshops with various children's groups during which ocean ecology and beach clean-up efforts are featured.
