About Jeanne M. Burke and Karen Van Dyke
Jeanne has worked in end of life care since 2007 and is a passionate advocate and educator. She currently consults and coaches individuals and families on preparing for illness or end of life. Jeanne's desire is to improve understanding of death, dying and end of life within the LGBTQ community and to improve healthcare providers understanding of how to compassionately care for and relate to their LGBTQI patients.
Karen guides families through the journey of finding senior housing choices for their loved ones. When she takes families through a life assessment inquiry, she frequently sees where families have not prepared or have not had important life conversations with each other, causing a considerable angst where there already is a crisis. "There's got to be a better way, she said." That's when Karen became aware of Death Cafés and brought them to our community.
