A passionate plea in support of assisted dying by Judy Finnegan and Richard Madeley

Lord Falconer's Assited Dying Bill is coming before parliament on 18 July.

I hope the vote is in support of the bill. A similar law exists in Oregon and has not caused problems. Assisted dying has been a relief for some people who are suffering a great deal in their dying despite all the palliative care they get. It is only humane to allow dying people the choice to take their own life. I admire Judy and Richard. They decided if one of them became seriously ill and were dying and wanted to be assisted in their dying, they would help the other to die and then commit suicide rather than go to prison.
