I am starting a Death Kansas in Lawrence, KS and seek other leaders tips, ideas and insight.  I already have a location and plan to design a flyer as I do graphi design for my job.  I'd love to hear from other leaders.

Hi CW,
Good for you! Some insights I have from hosting is, block out enough time!! At least 2 hours. Keep introductions brief; explain the death cafe concept and emphasize important guidelines you'd like to follow. Open the floor for discussion, don't come with a set order of topics. But keep a few statements or ideas in your back pocket in case conversation lag. The nice thing about death cafes is they really plan themselves! People have a lot to say so let them speak their minds! Oh, and a wrap up warning of 5-10 minutes it good too! Good luck!! And have fun!!

Thank you

I have attended DC that did not end on time so I do know what you mean. My plan is to abide by the DC guidelines 100%

Best to you Kristen

Death Cafe in Kansas

Congratulations! I am originally from Nebraska and been to Lawrence, KS many times. Spread the word on the college campus - I was surprised to learn how many young people want to talk about death. Also, I agree with the others to start & end on time. The mistake I made starting out was not anticipating the large number of people interested in this. I had the first Denver Death Cafe in a tea/coffee shop and it was way too crowded and noisy for the 30 people who showed up. Many people RSVP and some people just decide to attend at the last minute. I am more than happy to share any insights with you. My email is denverdeathcafe@gmail.com Kudos to you for starting one!
