About Erica Zizak:
Hello! I am a wife and mother of three. I am Japanese and American, not to be confused with Japanese American. My parents were from two different countries, so I had the unique experience of being raised in both Northern California and Japan. I currently reside in Southern California only a few miles from the ocean, which has been a lifelong dream come true.
My sons are 20 and 26 years old and have flown the nest, so now our homestead is a cozy little community consisting of me, my husband, our 16 year old daughter, a little dog, and two big cats. My hobbies include binge watching law and crime shows and british tv shows, cooking, knitting and crocheting, and thrifting with my daughter.
I hope to connect with you over drinks, desserts, and conversations about death.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
I believe that learning to live with grief and normalizing conversations about death and dying have a profound effect on our health and wellbeing and our ability to live fully. I want to connect with people over conversations about death and dying so these important parts of our lives don't remain in the shadows and we can begin to heal as individuals, as a community, and as a society. I live with grief and loss that I don't regularly talk about and over the years the silence, at times, has had a negative effect on my relationships and lifestyle. Because of my own experiences of not being seen or heard, I want to create a free and safe space where people can come and share their thoughts and feelings openly and without judgment.
What would you like your legacy to be?
I would like my legacy to be having brought people together in a way that fosters understanding and peace through connectedness and relatedness.
Thoughts for sharing:
"We bereaved are not alone. We belong to the largest company in all the world - the company of those who have known suffering." - Helen Keller
