About Lauren Hayden:
I am a writer and end-of-life doula behind Charon Death Doula, practicing in the Twin Cities. I believe that cultivating a relationship with death can help us lead more meaningful lives during our time on Earth.
Currently operating as a volunteer venture, Charon Death Doula provides conscious companionship, emotional and spirital support, and creative consulting to clients and their families at the ennd of life and their families.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
Childhood trauma is so boring, but the short version is I grew up in a cloud of grief. Funerals almost felt like a relief because finally, I felt like my loved ones were experiencing grief with me. I also noticed how clumsily our culture handled death, as if no one had any chance of preparing for it.
As I grew up, our widespread denial of death continued to frustrate me and I continued to feel a call to end-of-life work. I crave deep conversations with other folks who are not afraid to acknowledge the big transition that awaits us all, and look forward to connecting here!
What would you like your legacy to be?
If I can dream big, I would love to make some change in our culture around death and help people approach trhe end-of-life consciously.
Thoughts for sharing:
My goals around death and dying are:
-to die as gently and responsibly as I strive to live
-to feel that I gave as much love as I could possibly give
