About Mailey E. McLaughlin, M.Ed.:

I'm in the midst of a career change at 55 years of age. I am looking to become more involved in the EOL (end-of-life) and death positivity/death acceptance movement.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

I have attended several in-person death cafes pre-COVID. Since March 2020, I have been fortunate to attend many online death cafes and I wanted to start my own. Talking about death in a welcoming setting can be truly cathartic. Perhaps, as a collective, we can dispel the fear of death and create lives that we truly live up until the end.

Thoughts for sharing:

"Death drives every creative and destructive impulse we have as human beings. The closer we come to understanding it, the closer we come to understanding ourselves." ~Caitlin Doughty

"The great secret of death, and perhaps its deepest connection with us, is this: that, in taking from us a being we have loved and venerated, death does not wound us without, at the same time, lifting us toward a more perfect understanding of this being and of ourselves." ~Ranier Maria Rilke
