About Michael Brooke:

I spent a number of years in the music and publishing business. In 2018, I made the decision to sell my business. I wound up getting a job as a funeral director's assistant at a local funeral home. For most people, this would seem like a fairly odd pivot - but it made sense to me. I had spent time volunteering at my local hospice and retirement home.

I see music as a great way to start a conversation when it comes to death and dying. Music is such a powerful force in our lives. When I started to think about what music I wanted to be remembered by, I began developing a playlist on Spotify. These were songs I wanted to be played at my funeral or end of life celebration. This idea has now spawned a podcast that I call A Tranquil Passage.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

I have joined up with Death Cafe to help  facilitate conversations around death and dying. I also really enjoy participating in Death Cafes because I have a unique perspective as I work in the funeral industry.
