About Denis McCarthy:

Senior Clinical Psychologist and Mindfulness-based Group Therapist

with an interest in Grief and Loss, Health Ageing and Mindfulness-based approaches to counselling, personal and transpersonal growth, and therapy.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

Initially my interest in Grief and Loss, Health Ageing and Mindfulness-based approaches to counselling, personal and transpersonal growth, and therapy.

More recently, my interest in Climate Change anxiety, depression, grief and outrage tempered by activism, empowerment, hope and optimisim.

What would you like your legacy to be?

To have helped the needful to have suffered less and learnt to be happier.

To have helped the willing to be empowered enough to be an agent of positive change and make a small, or large, contribution to global transformation, human survival and the flourishing of life on Earth, our one and only beautiful home in this vast galaxy and vaster cosmos.

Thoughts for sharing:

A sufi saying is to die before you die. Or as Martin Luter King said, "Forget the Past" and much earlier Jesus, "consider the lillies in the field. They neither toil nor worry about the morrow."

In short, death offers us the opportunity to trun our attention to the here and now and to learn to be more present and whole.
