About CJ Alloway:

I am a psychiatric nurse therapist counselor and a pastor in the Presbyterian Church USA. I am the head of staff pastor at the Church of the Roses in Santa Rosa. One of our goals is to reach out with nurturing love. We see hosting a Death Cafe as a way to nurture people and help people connect in supportive ways.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

The fear of death causes many people to resist living life to the fullest. Death is a topic we all can anticipate and a common denominator between all created beings.

Discussing our fears, hopes, dreams, and concerns in a supportive atmosphere can help the group participants feel connected and at peace. I like the open structure and the encouragement to deal with this topic that many people believe is hard to face.

What would you like your legacy to be?

That I let nothing come in the way of showing love for my neighbor.

That I never let the fear of death keep me from living fully.

That I took risks to show love in action and in truth.

That I loved fearlessly.

That I imitated Jesus with my life, healing others and providing forgiveness and wholeness in body, mind, and spirit as much as possible.

Thoughts for sharing:

  • The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.
