About this Death Cafe

Join us as we come together to talk about death and dying... and of course, to eat cake or some other tasty goodness! The objective of a Death Cafe is ‘to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives. For many, talking about death and dying can be uncomfortable. Join us for a thoughtful discussion about end of life and share your experiences, thoughts and fears about death in a relaxed setting. The Death Cafe is a group directed discussion, but not a grief support or counseling session. There is no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action. Our Death Cafe is accessible to anyone who would like to join our respectful and confidential space.

About your Death Cafe Hostesses: 

Valerie Nicholas is a Life-Cycle Celebrant certified in creating meaningful and unique end-of-life ceremonies. She has been a hospice volunteer for over 13 years, and recently trained to become an End of Life Doula. Valerie believes embracing our own mortality leads us to live our lives to the fullest. Open conversations about death and dying should alleviate much of the taboo and fear!

Cindy Kaufman is a Certified End of Life Doula who began volunteering with hospice more than 20 years ago. Cindy provides compassionate end of life companioning, life review and vigil planning for the dying person. She is also an ordained interfaith minister offering funeral, memorial and life celebration services. She has received training in home funerals and green burials and can assist clients who choose these options.
