About Rory Ballantyne

Rory Ballantyne is a musician based in Liverpool and has been commissioned by Open Culture to produce a choir performance of music inspired by the Death Café movement and host a Death Café. The Death Café will be faciliated by Jackie O'Carroll and Rev Juliet Stevenson.

Jackie O'Carroll is a trained End of Life Doula, offering companionship and support to those facing dying, and their families.

Jackie has her own personal experiences of loss and grief and considers this 'sacred work'.

Jackie was a nurse for many years, is a life (and death!) coach and finds peace and joy in creativity, including hand-sewing and weaving.

Rev Juliet Stephenson has a passion for funeral ministry and all that comes with it. Her job title is ‘Director of The Good Funeral Company’ which provides celebrant ministers to families and funeral directors in the Diocese of Liverpool. I was in parish ministry for 13 years, before moving to her current role, and has worked on the Archbishops’ Funeral Project since it began 6 years ago. Liverpool is thinking creatively and strategically about how funeral ministry within the church might be approached differently. These are very exciting times!

She is married to Phill, have 2 children at Uni, miss having a dog at home, but enjoy the freedom to take long faraway holidays!
