About this Death Cafe
What is Death Cafe?
Brought to New Orleans by Nithya Ravindran and Rachel Hammer, Death Cafe is a community gathering to discuss the topic of death over cake and drinks! Death affects all of us, personally and professionally. These discussions on death can be a way to process those experiences and help reinvigorate life!
We have been holding Death Cafes quarterly in New Orleans since June 2017. Our model is based on an international model started by Jon Underwood in England. It brings together members of the community from all different ilk. The discussions are often on mortality, the afterlife, suicide, funerals, rituals, etc. New Orleans itself lends a lot to these discussions as the city has a lot of practices and beliefs around death. Our meetings have no agenda, no objectives, and no answers. The content is solely dependent on the ideas brought by the participants. This event is free and open to all members of the community. As always, there will be cake!
