About this Death Cafe

Wake is a non-commercial resource to help people confront death, either their own, or another’s. We founded Wake to provide practical solutions for real community needs. When faced with dying and death there are few places to turn for help, outside of private companies with a vested interest in selling products and services. Furthermore, we believe that our prevailing culture is generally avoidant of death and, as a society, we suffer from fear and anxiety about the subject, making it taboo and seldom discussed or contemplated. This has only been exacerbated by the COVID19 pandemic. We seek to engage in an open-ended conversation about death in an effort to combat this avoidance.
