About Caroline Dent:

I have been actively involved in the "death awarenss" movement all my life.  I experienced death anxiety (thanataphobia) as a small child, and this led to a journey of enquiry that has spanned the last 30 years. I come from a creative background, and have been making memorial/remembrance jewellery for the last ten years. Recently however, I trained as an End of Life Doula (someone who companions people at the end  of life in the same way a birth doula companions a person  during the birthing process, providing a compassionate presence, practical help and continuity, during what can feel like a very chaotic time. I have volunteered with Marie Curie, Islington Bereavment Service and Maytree respite centre for suicidal people, and have been involved with the Death cafe movement since 2013, beginning with Death Cafe Hampstead and for the last six months, co-hosting Finsbury Park Death Cafe. I believe that by bringing our concious awareness to this oft maligned subject, we can begin to liberate ourselves from fear of death, hopefully enabling us to live more fully.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

I co-host the Finsbury Park Death Cafe

What would you like your legacy to be?

I would like to be seen as a death educator, someone who gently encourages others to face their fears around death, rather than burying them and so live less fearfully and more vibrantly.

Thoughts for sharing:

There is no birth, there is no death; there is no coming, there is no going; there is no same, there is no different; there is no permanent self, there is no annihilation. We only think there is.

Thich Nhat Hanh :  No Death, No Fear
