About Justine Silver:

Justine Silver's interest in talking about death and dying comes from her own healing experience after the sudden loss of her husband a few years ago. She has a desire to keep the conversation going amongst widow/ers who are past the early stages of grief.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

The idea of a discussion group, rather than a support group, with an element of socializing (with cake and food!) is a concept that resonates with me.  I want to create and be in situations in which talking about death doesn't necessarily lead to sadness.

The event was good with 8 people in attendance.  Words used to describe the event (in the evaluation) were empowering, inclusive, supportive and weird fun!

The next one will be held in June, hopefully in an outdoor location.

The second Death Cafe for this group was smaller - with 6 people - which led to a more intimate discussion.

Via evaluation, participants described the session as emotional, comforting, understanding and inclusive.

My favourite answer to the question "If someone told you they were thinking of attending a Death Cafe, what would you tell them" is . . . "Can I pick you up?"

The first event for this group went well.

12 people attended.

Words people used to describe it are welcoming, unique, truthful, supportive, honest, healing, and real.
