Death Cafe profile for Cynthia Stadler

Location: United States

About Cynthia Stadler:

I am a hospice nurse and educator in rural Vermont and New Hampshire.  I started my career in healthcare  almost 30 years ago practicing as a nurse-midwife, then about 5 years ago my work transitioned  to supporting those at the end of life.

I am a mother of two young adults, a wife of a geriatrician, and the daughter of two parents with dementia.  I have cared for  many dying loved ones- in both my own family and in the families of my dear patients.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

I feel passionate about supporting people in living their lives at the end of life, and dying in a manner that is aligned with their values.

Talking about what we believe, what matters, what we fear, what we wonder, what's hard...

It all seems so important to living our best lives.  I want to help encourage and support those converstions.

What would you like your legacy to be?

I hope I will be remembered as a woman who listened to her heart, cared well for others, enjoyed life and made the most of what she was given.

Thoughts for sharing:

Late Fragment

And did you get what you wanted from this life, even so?

I did.

And what did you want?

To call myself beloved, to feel myself beloved on the earth.

-Raymond Carver
