Death Cafe write up: Death Cafe in Whitstable

Eleven people joined Julie and Sue at the Umbrella Centre in Whitstable on Saturday 23rd January. Conversations were personal, humbling and inspiring.
We also spoke of the festival of 'the Day of the Dead,' could this come to Whitstable? Communications from those who have died, how best to talk to friends and family who have life threatening illnesses, soul midwifery and discussions around taking control of our dying.
We talked a lot, drank tea and coffee and ate cake, there was lots of laughing too. Sue and Julie

Sue and Julie apologise that we canacelled the Death Cafe in Canterbury on 14th January as we wanted to let our venue know that we'd had no enquiries or bookings.
Thre people turned up on the day and we weren't there to explain.
We will think more carefully now about how we deal with any possible future cancelled Death cafes.

This was an energetic and inspiring afternoon. We had thirteen people come together at the Whitstable Umbrella Centre, plenty of cakes, tea and coffee.
Everyone took part in the various conversations and the trust grew with each other very qiuckly.
After our break, more personal material was shared and yet there was also light heartedness at the end.
The buzz of conversation was immense after the offical end and people wanted to swap email addresses to stay in contact.
It was humbling and exciting to be a co host at this event. Julie and I also want to thank the Whitstable Umbrella Centre for their support by allowing ...

Julie and I were happy that seven people turned up to our small venue in the heart of Canterbury.
It was our first time of hosting and after the initial welcome and setting of ground rules, the conversation evolved from the subjects and perspectives that people had indicated when we introduced ourselves.
Julie and I intend to run another one in Whitstable in the Autumn and we have already had a neutral venue agree to let us host from there.
