About Bryan Bess:

I'm married to my best friend, live in a little town called Fredericksburg, and own a hedgehog.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

I first heard about Death Cafes from a good friend of mine.  I had recently read a book on death and was intrigued by our culture's response, or lack thereof, to death.  We have outsourced death to the healthcare and funeral industries, and we no longer know what it looks like or feels like.  So when death inevitably presents itself, we find ourselves apprehensive, afraid, and alone.

What would you like your legacy to be?

A faithful, authentic, and creative husband, father, and community member.

Thoughts for sharing:

Death is no more than passing from one room into another.  But there's a difference for me, you know.  Because in that other room I shall be able to see.  -Hellen Keller

It is difficult to accept death in this society because it is unfamiliar.  In spite of the fact that it happens all the time, we never see it.  -Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
