Death Cafe profile for Stephanie Hutchinson

Location: United Kingdom

About Stephanie Hutchinson:

In a previous life I was a television producer and then switched careers to train as a counsellor and group facilitator.  And I have recently begun working part-time as a funeral and bereavement adviser for a fairly new not-for-profit funeral directors in Scotland.

However I am not interested in death and dying because I am work in the industry, I work in the industry because I am interested in death and dying and the lack of candid conversations around the topic.

Having been 'orphaned' at the fairly young age of 28, I've long been aware of the fear and discomfort folk have around bereavement, let alone dying.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

I am keen to encourage frank discussions around death and dying and all that comes with it.

I believe that in an appropriately facilitated environment, talking about what can seem very taboo topics can be hugely beneficial for individuals as the respectful sharing of stories, thoughts and beliefs can help people connect with each other and their own mortality.

What would you like your legacy to be?

Hmm, I would like to be someone who somehow inspired people to be more courageous with their lives and more courageous in standing up for their values.
