About Death Cafe Mission Hospice:

I have been honored to work with people who are dying, and those who care for them for almost 30 years.

As a hospice volunteer coordinator for 20+ years and now as a Community Educator, I continue to be inspired by those who show up curious, bereft, inspired, to be of service, to learn, and to honor those in their lives who have died. Theyhave been, and continue to be, my teachers.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

Susan Barber has been facilitating a Death Cafes in her home town of Alameda CA since 2013, and when she joined Mission Hospice & Home Care in 2015, it seemed like a natural fit.

We began to host Death Cafes in San Mateo County in 2015, and we continue to be inspired by the people who join us to share their experiences, stories, hopes and dreams about death.

Co Host Jeanette Fedasz, RN has worked in the Spanish speaking Community helping them navigate needs at end of life. She is an nurse with many years of experience supporting those with cancer.

We are grateful to our community partners who have undertaken this adventure with us and thank BACC for hosting their first Death Cafe!

What would you like your legacy to be?

That all people have an oppotunity to explore death with the same curiosity & fascination that they explore life...and that no one, ever, arrives in an ER having to make a decision about a loved one's care having never considered their loved ones  (or their own), wishes, needs, hopes & dreams  concerning health care prior to that moment...

Thoughts for sharing:

"How soon will we accept this opportunity to be fully alive before we die?"

- Stephen Levine
