About this Death Cafe

The objective of our Death Cafe is to break the taboo we have about discussing the inevitable so that we may ” Increase awareness of death with a view to making the most of our precious and finite lives”

About Risa Marlen, LCSW & Nancy Saum

Risa is a  certified Life-Cycle Celebrant specifically trained in the art of creating ceremony that gives personal meaning to life’s most significant Rites of Passage;  whether it is the joyous coming together in life-long partnership, the heralding of a new being into the world, the movement from one stage of  life to the next, or the somber honoring of a loved one’s passing.   Risa also has many years of experience as a clinical social worker, specializing in grief counseling.

Nancy is a holistic nurse who now focuses on teaching mindfulness practices--to promote health and wellness in her Sarasota community.  Nancy believes that an awareness of our mortality helps us appreciate the joy and wonder of this life
