About Joan and Phil at Marie Curie

Joan and Phil work in the Policy and Public Affairs Team at Marie Curie.

In our day jobs, we found there is a real reluctance among people, especially in Northern Ireland, to talk about death and dying. We know it's not an easy subject, that it's taboo.

But it doesn't need to be. Not talking and not being open about death and dying can act as a real barrier to getting the care we need at the end of our lives.

For us, it's quite simple: we need to be more open as a society about death. That's why we're holding this Death Café, as part of Dying Matters Week.

At a Death Café people drink tea, coffee, eat cake and discuss death. Our aim is to increase awareness of death to help people make the most of their lives.

If you'd like to come, please RSVP to philip.mynes@mariecurie.org.uk. We look forward to seeing you at Common Grounds Café on Saturday 14th May at 3pm!
