About this Death Cafe
What a relief it is to talk with a room full of strangers about DEATH: the "Elephant in the living room." We have such lively conversations at our Death Cafe St Johns! Formally held at "St Johns Living Well," we have relocated to a private home in the wake of Living Well's closure at the end of March, 2015. Please RSVP as space is limited, and come join us!
About Shae Uisna
Shae Uisna is a Certified Life-Cycle Celebrant with the Celebrant Foundation and Institute who specializes in Funerals, Anniversary Memorials and Healing Ceremonies. Shae is an artist, teacher & performer who is wild about comparative mythology and puppet & mask theatre. Ms. Uisna facilitates a Death Café in St Johns (Portland), Oregon (www.facebook.com/deathcafestjohns); founded the “Motherless Mother’s Day Celebration”; and is passionate about developing "very creative ceremonies" such as Anniversary Memorials and Earth Father's Day/Earth Mother's Day Celebrations.
In 2009, Shae received her Master of Arts degree in Theatre from Portland State University with an emphasis in directing and design. Ms. Uisna was a Fulbright Scholar to Indonesia where she studied wayang golek menak, the rod puppet theatre of Central Java. In her work as a theatre artist, Shae draws from a wealth of imagery and traditions, weaving archetype, movement and music into performances and classes that are moving and transformative (https://youtu.be/s6_JlLM_Kqo). Ms Uisna is married to artist, activist and classical guitarist, John Daniel Teply. (www.ateliergallery.com). Mr. Teply and Ms. Uisna live in St Johns, (North Portland), Oregon with their six cats, their mason bees, and their magnificent bee & butterfly garden.
