About this Death Cafe

Western society has long outsourced conversations about death to doctors, nurses, priests, and undertakers, and as a result we have lost the ability to comfortably discuss the most profound and significant event we will all have to face. The first UK Death Cafe was set up in 2011 by Jon Underwood, not only to make the subject more palatable but also to "help people make the most of their (finite) lives."

For London Month of the Dead 2015, Louise de Winter will be hosting a death cafe at Abney Park Cemetery on the 11th October while Stephen Coates will be in the Dissenters' Chapel in Kensal Green Cemetery on the 3rd October.

These are free events devoted to discussing all aspects of mortality over light refreshments.

About Louise de Winter

Louise de Winter is known in the USA as 'the Mary Poppins of Death', she has hosted Death Cafes at Brooklyn's Morbid Anatomy Museum, upstate New York, Burnham-on-Crouch and at Bestival on the Isle of Wight.

Her mission is to 'do death differently' with sensitivity and in style. She believes that by embracing death, we can truly embrace life.
