About this Death Cafe

There is no agenda. After a brief welcome to all participants, we'll break up into three groups of about six people. The course of the discussion is entirely up to the participants. We'll get back together briefly as a single group at the end to make sure no-one leaves with anything important left unsaid!

About Heather Blakey & David Rigby

Heather Blakey describes herself as a purveyor of creative stimuli, an artistic midwife who, like a doula, has stepped away from mainstream practice. She has devoted herself to providing playgrounds for fledgling writers and artisans as they develop their craft, build networks and extend their reach. Heather has a background in Local Government and worked as a Secondary School Teacher for over thirty years. She has also worked in the field of loss and grief and is currently undertaking a Qualifying Masters of Social Work at Monash University.

David Rigby is a Castlemaine immigrant of six years standing. His one and only serious health scare twelve years ago persuaded him that death is at least a theoretical possibility and that it is unlikely that an exception will be made in his case (with acknowledgements to Woody Allen). As part of the process of confronting his mortality, he spent two years as a volunteer for an in-the-home palliative care service in Melbourne. He became aware of the “Death Café” concept about six months ago and decided he would like to offer a Death Café event to the Mount Alexander Shire community in which he feels so much at home.
