Death Cafe in a Retirement Village

Hi, Just planning to hold a death cafe in a Retirement village (which does have a cafe) and wondered if anyone else has done this? How did it go? The other suggestion I might follow up on is to hold one at a secondary school. Anyone done this? Would really love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks, Karen

Retirement village suggestions

I haven't hosted one in a retirement village but have talked to several people who have.

Extra things to consider:
Mobility may restrict moving around from table to table for small group rotation

It is not uncommon for several attendees to have hearing issues. Consider using amplification of some kind.

I've been told the older adults that already know each other prefer one big discussion rather than one small discussion.

If you do one big discussion, you will need to moderate/facilitate to ensure no one monopolizes the conversation.

In my experience, the best Death Cafes are those with diversity. It would enhance the experience to invite the community to the event, rather than restrict it to just the residents.

As for the school, as a practitioner, that makes me nervous. Consider parental approval. Otherwise you run the risk of controversy.
